Human Bowen
Bowen Technique is a gentle, subtle and relaxing hands-on treatment aimed at relieving tension, reducing pain and re-balancing the body. This treats the whole person and not just the condition. When our body is compromised by physical injury, poor posture, emotional holding or constant stress, pain and other symptoms often follow. Bowen Therapy is suitable for all ages.
Below are some some common conditions which respond well to Bowen Therapy:
- Back pain, sciatica, hip pain and pelvic imbalance
- Neck & shoulder pain, whiplash, frozen shoulder
- Headaches & migraines
- Tennis & golfers elbow, RSI, carpel tunnel syndrome
- Sporting injuries, groin strain, hamstring & knee problems, twisted ankles, plantar fasciitis
- Hay fever, Asthma, allergies, TMJ syndrome, sinusitis
- Stress related conditions, chronic fatigue, MS, ME, depression
What does a treatment involve?
Most of the work can be performed through light clothing, like t-shirt and leggings, but not jeans, although it is best performed on skin. The ultimate choice should be the Client’s, however. Each session will vary according to the presenting symptoms of the client as well as the skill and experience of the therapist, an initial treatment will address the whole body. As a general rule, moves will be made over the lower and mid back and legs, the upper back and shoulders before finishing with neck moves.
During the treatment the practitioner will leave the room for a few minutes at a time, in between sets of moves, and this is to allow your body time to absorb and respond to the messages sent to it via the Bowen moves, and begin repairing or realigning itself where necessary.
A session will generally last around 45-60 minutes although this will vary according to the way individual therapists work. Treatments should be scheduled between 5-7 days apart and an initial set of 3 treatments are recommended. Many clients choose to see their practitioner regularly as this helps the body to function at its best, can be a way of managing stress and can help prevent new problems from developing.
It is important that during the course of Bowen treatment you do not receive any other physical therapy, such as physiotherapy, osteoathy, chiropractic, acupuncture, reiki, reflexology etc in the 7 days before/after treatment, as this will interrupt the work the Bowen treatment has started off and also overload the body with information.
Cost – £35 per treatment
